London 2010 Festival of Stamps

Accession of King George V : Miniature Sheet - 6 May 2010

Every 10 years London hosts an international stamp exhibition, but this time it's different.  The London 2010 Festival of Stamps is a year long celebration of stamps, stamp design and postal heritage. The Festival also marks the centenary of the accession of George V, the philatelist king, and the first stamp issue for the Festival marks this anniversary.

1st class double-headed stamp for London Festival of Stamps 2010.

As in 1990 one special stamp will be a double-headed Machin, this time showing the Mackennal profile head of King George V behind that of Queen Elizabeth II.  The 1st class orange stamp will also be issued as a stand-alone stamp in conventional counter sheets. The second stamp is a £1 value in brown showing both Downey and Mackennal heads used on British stamps of his reign.
