New Country Stamps - 11 May 2004

New 40p stamps for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales -

The 20gr letter rate for European countries increased from 38p to 40p on1 April. Although the new rate was served adequately by the 'E' rate stamps, Royal Mail have decided to change the stamps from 'Non-Valued' to valued and the stamps issued only on 14 October 2003 are now being replaced by 40p stamps in the same design, as follows:


England : Oak Tree;
Northern Ireland : Linen pattern;
Scotland: Thistle;
Wales: Daffodil.

The images are from Royal Mail's Postmark Bulletin and Philatelic Bulletin and are Copyright 2004 by Royal Mail.

Technical details the stamps are printed in sheets of 200 be De La Rue, with the Northern Ireland stamp in lithography, the other countries' in gravure.
